About the event
This introductory Body Mapping workshop explores the anatomy and movements of breathing. Many musicians struggle for years to find easy, comfortable breathing to support their music making, in part because of the often exclusive focus on breathing from or with the diaphragm in music pedagogy. Breathing 101 will help fill in the gaps in information that may be limiting your comfort and performance in a two hour virtual format where you can expect to:
- Learn about the structure and function of the parts of your body whose movements make breathing happen
- Identify the locations and movements of your breathing apparatus in your own body through anatomical images and models, as well as movement and palpation exercises
- Apply workshop concepts directly to your instrument throughout the two hour session
- Take home concrete, practical exercises and techniques to integrate into your practice and performance to continue freeing your breath after the workshop ends
This introductory workshop is appropriate for all instruments and vocalists, and for any Body Mapping experience level.Â
